Riders Aid Day

Riders Aid is a program that focuses on raising awareness and funding for basic needs in impoverished countries. Many people around the world live without food, clean water, basic health care and shelter. We want to multiply our resources to help make a difference. It is our aim to educate and enlist assistance from the snowriding community.

Feb 28, 2009 will be Riders Aid Day, a national day of fundraising for clean drinking water in Africa. Through the collective efforts of many individuals and businesses we were able to raise $5,600.00 last year, we aim to increase that by at least 25%.

The money we raise will be given to Samaritans Purse to help fund their “Turn on the Tap” program. This program is dedicated to providing clean and safe drinking water to the 1.1 Billion people worldwide who live without it. Our focus will be to fund the installation of BioSand water filters in the African countries of Kenya, Ethiopia, Malawi, Libya and Mozambique. For every $100 raised we will be able to fund the construction and installation of a BioSand water filter that will provide clean drinking water for an entire household. The BioSand Water Filters are an ingenious invention of Dr. David Manz from Calgary (for more info check out www.manzwaterinfo.ca). It is a simple filter made from local materials that requires little maintenance and no electricity or fuel to run. We invite you to join the effort!
